Two Idots and A Lady Short Film

This is a short film I created filmed, acted in and then edited. This film had to be a silent film and tell a story. I was in a group and we all discussed a genre of film we wanted to do. I came up with slapstick comedy because of how well known it is for being silent. Our group decided this was a good idea and so then i started to work on pre production and broadening my idea so it had a story and some comedy. I was going to write a script for my short film so i researched script writing techniques so i could improve my writing skills. I did 3 drafts of my final script and the whole group decided to use my script for thr final one to use in production. I did storyboarding, location recconnaisance, a budget report, risk assesments and a filming schedule all before we went out filming so that we were prepared for production of the film. After all the pre-production was done we pitched our idea to someone from the BBC to see if our idea sounded strong enough if this was for a real film comapny. We planned our picth and spoke about our idea, potential actors, budget, props, costume and locations. Doing a budget report helped me understand that it would really be like to film a short film for real, with proper actors and how much planning goes into it. The pitch gave me a good idea of what it would really be like and I think I delivered the idea confidentaly. Then we started the production, filming took us about 2 months because of the locations, scenes and length of the short film. I acted in the film and filmed also so I got a view from both sides. I learnt alot about using a camera and creating a good shot. I had the role of actor and production runner so I helped everyone and ten towards the end i took up the role of director for our production. Our locations were all outside and all our film was meant to be on the same day so we tried hard to keep the continuity by using the same costumes, actors and trying to make sure the weather in the locations were the same when we filmed. On days we didn't film I started to practice my editing techniques on premier pro with some practice footage.

I loved editing all my footage together in the post producton of my short film. The editing took me about a month because of the effects I added to my film to give it the comedy slapstick, old fashioned style. Throughout this whole project I kept a detailed production log of the work process of my short film.

I learnt alot of skills doing this short film like how much work goes into all three production processes. I learnt how to write a script correctly and confidently, getting ready for production with all the research then how to film and then finally edit and give my short film aprofessional overall look. I would love to make another short film like this.
